From an early age, my grandmother, the painter and
book cover illustrator, Barbara Eryl Vize, was my
greatest influence. I was captivated by her paintings,
especially her abstract works and fascinated by
the way they developed entirely from her own
imagination, rather than something tangible.
Other influences include Patrick Heron, Frank Bowling
and Wassily Kandinsky.
As my painting has progressed I have become more
and more interested in understanding the human
mind, in particular concentrating on the difference
between painting with a conscious plan and allowing
a piece to develop ‘between thoughts’.
